SSO Monitoring & Water Quality Services
Protecting water quality and preventing sanitary sewer overflows (SSOs) is critical for public health and environmental compliance—and Envocore is here to help.
We provide end-to-end SSO monitoring and water quality services designed to meet regulatory requirements and safeguard your community. Our expert team develops customized monitoring programs to detect overflows, track inflow and infiltration (I&I), and maintain system integrity.
Why it matters:
Sanitary Sewer Overflows (SSOs) can result from blockages, line breaks, power failures, and inflow and infiltration—often responsible for up to 45% of annual flow to treatment plants. Left unaddressed, SSOs pose serious environmental risks and regulatory penalties.
Our services include:
-
Real-time SSO monitoring and reporting
-
Regulatory compliance support
-
Inflow and infiltration tracking
-
Customized monitoring program development
-
Water quality testing and analysis for safe, compliant consumption
Ensure clean water. Prevent overflows. Stay in compliance—with Envocore.
Risks and Legal Implications of SSOs
SSOs pose risks of contaminating public areas, causing property damage, and endangering public health. The U.S. EPA prohibits SSOs without an NPDES permit and imposes limitations on pumping station use, restricting their operation to a maximum of 10 hours at a time to minimize the risk of failure.
US3 Solution for SSO Monitoring
US3 partners with a utility to develop a solution for near real-time visibility at critical locations to proactively identify sewer overflow conditions. The solution integrates smart sensors from US3 and data visualization tools, allowing the utility to create customizable data dashboards to address regulatory concerns.
SSO Monitoring Automation and Optimization
By automating the measurement of flow rates at pumping stations, this solution replaces the traditional and hazardous manual process. The collected data can be utilized for capacity analysis and performance monitoring to optimize sanitary sewers. Additionally, remote access to sensor data helps the utility identify inaccuracies or failures in measurement devices, ensuring the integrity of the information collected.
Metering Surveys – Precision Insights for Smarter Utility Management
Envocore’s metering surveys give utilities the data they need to optimize performance, reduce loss, and bill with confidence. Using advanced technology and proven field methods, our expert team delivers accurate, actionable insights into your water and energy usage.
With our metering surveys, you can:
-
Identify high-usage areas and potential billing inaccuracies
-
Detect leaks and infrastructure issues early
-
Target repairs and upgrades more effectively
-
Ensure fair and accurate customer billing
-
Improve operational efficiency and regulatory compliance
Whether you’re upgrading systems or auditing performance, Envocore’s metering surveys provide the clarity you need to make smarter decisions.
Small Meter Surveys – Comprehensive or Sample-Based
Envocore conducts detailed field investigations of small meters, whether as part of a full system audit or a targeted sample survey. These surveys provide utilities with a clear and accurate picture of their meter inventory. Our team documents critical data including meter size, serial numbers, current readings, and the condition of boxes, lids, and surrounding infrastructure. This information helps utilities validate system records, improve billing accuracy, and identify maintenance or replacement needs within their small meter population.
Intermediate & Large Meter Surveys – Full-Scope Assessment for High-Value Assets
Envocore performs comprehensive surveys of intermediate and large meters, typically covering 100% of locations to capture critical system data. In addition to all elements included in a small meter survey, these assessments gather detailed information on meter lay lengths, spool piece requirements, vault and pit conditions, and interior commercial settings. Surveys also document the presence of bypass lines, isolation valves, and test ports to support future testing and verification. These insights help utilities maintain accurate records, ensure proper sizing and installation, and support proactive maintenance of high-value metering infrastructure.
Meter Testing – Accurate, Compliant, and Actionable
Envocore provides comprehensive meter testing services to ensure the accuracy, reliability, and performance of your metering infrastructure. We follow all AWWA M6 standards and IPMVP protocols to deliver valid, statistically sound results.
For small and intermediate meters (2″ and smaller), we offer push/pull testing using either bench stock or newly purchased meters. Retrieved meters can be tested in the field using a NIST-traceable comparison meter or shipped to a certified testing facility for evaluation.
For large meters (3″ and above), we conduct in-place testing using advanced field equipment—provided proper isolation and test ports are present and functional.
Backed by Envocore’s Utility Data Management services, every test is supported by accurate data collection, analysis, and reporting, giving you confidence in your system’s performance and billing integrity.
Service Line Identification – Supporting EPA Lead Compliance
Envocore helps utilities stay ahead of regulatory requirements with reliable service line identification that supports compliance with the EPA’s Lead and Copper Rule Revisions. Knowing what’s underground before problems arise is critical for planning, safety, and public trust.
Our trained technicians are skilled in identifying various types of water service lines, including:
- Galvanized
- Non-lead copper
- Non-lead plastic
- Non-lead other
- Lead
- Lead-lined galvanized
- Unknown – likely lead
- Unknown – unlikely lead
Using the EPA-recommended scratch-and-observe method along with a magnet test, we accurately determine the material of each line. This proactive approach enables utilities to document inventory, prioritize replacements, and protect public health with confidence.
